Water Polo Success!

Water Polo Success!

The junior water polo team have been going from strength to strength over the year and have worked extremely hard to pick up the skills required to play effectively.

Training on both a Monday & Tuesday after school the team along with support from year 10 pupil Mathew Foster & year 11 pupil Sam Corsan have worked on their fitness, stamina and swimming technique as well as tactics and ball handling skills.

The team have taken part in a number of friendly competitions and most recently were a part of the ESSA Cadet Event.  Cadet Polo is an inclusive platform aimed to develop the participant’s skills and provide them with a safe environment in which to learn the rules of the game with an aim of moving on to full team water polo matches. This was a really exciting opportunity for the students and competitions were held regionally allowing all teams throughout the country to participate.  Traveling to Bradford on 2 occasions the team competed against a number of other schools.  The first competition was tough and the team ended up in 4th position with Euan James given player of the match for his outstanding efforts in goal.

Following this the team returned to training sessions more determined than ever.  They worked hard on their formation and teamwork and returned for the second match where they were just piped to the post claiming 2nd place!  Player of the match for this game was Alfie Fogg Owens who went out of his comfort zone taking the place of the goal keeper making some incredible saves.
