Co-Opted Governor required
We currently have vacancies for Co-opted Governors on the Governing Board, with opportunities to contribute to the work of the Resources Committee and/or the Teaching & Learning Committee. Co-opted governors are appointed based on their skills, knowledge and experience, which complement those already represented on the Governing Board and support the school’s strategic priorities and objectives.
You do not need to be a parent or carer of a pupil at the school to apply. Effective governors should be committed to supporting the school, able to ask questions and provide constructive challenge, and willing to work collaboratively as part of a team to help the school achieve the best possible outcomes for its pupils.
The Resources Committee focuses on:
• Monitoring and overseeing the school’s finances, budgets and expenditure
• Ensuring financial accountability and compliance
• Supporting decisions relating to the effective use of the school’s resources
• Contributing to the school’s strategic planning and priorities
The Teaching & Learning Committee focuses on:
• Monitoring standards and outcomes for pupils
• Supporting and challenging the school in relation to teaching, learning and curriculum provision
• Monitoring the progress and attainment of different groups of pupils
• Contributing to the school’s priorities for improvement and raising standards
We are therefore seeking a range of skills, knowledge and experience to strengthen the Governing Board. This could include experience in finance, accounting, business, education, curriculum, data, safeguarding, human resources, leadership, project management or other relevant areas.
Applicants may have skills and experience that are particularly suited to the Resources Committee, the Teaching & Learning Committee, or both. You do not need previous experience as a governor. We are interested in hearing from individuals who can bring a different perspective, ask thoughtful questions, provide constructive challenge and contribute positively to the work of the Governing Board. Further information about the role of a governor can be found on the school website or via the LA Governor Services website at www.boltongovernanceservices.org.uk
If you are interested in supporting our school in this capacity, please complete and return the attached application form by 9:00 am on Monday 21st September 2026. Appointments will be made by the Governing Board based on the skills, knowledge and experience that best support the needs of the committees and the wider Governing Board.
If you would like more information or wish to discuss the role, please do not hesitate to contact me.
All newly appointed and re-appointed governors must complete a declaration of eligibility form to confirm that they are not disqualified from becoming a governor. To ensure that candidates are eligible from the outset, anyone being considered for appointment will be asked to read and sign a pre-appointment declaration of eligibility form.
If you are considering applying and would like further information about the role, including the commitment involved in being a governor, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Yours sincerely
Sam Gorse
