Rising Stars

Provision for the more able, gifted and talented at Turton School

At Turton School we encourage every student to find their talents and gifts through a varied and enriching curriculum. Every subject area will identify students who are gifted or talented in their particular specialism which may mean the opportunity to participate in particular activities in class or through extra-curricular clubs, trips and competitions. In class provision could include differentiated tasks/work, open ended homework, subject mastery. Outside of class; enrichment trips and extra-curricular clubs, visits from outside speakers and subject based competitions are just some of the ways we use to foster an environment that promotes excellence. If a student wishes to enrich their learning further outside of the school environment, there is no need to ever be bored as we have a wealth of subject based challenges available through our G&T Enrichment section of the website.

The Rising Stars programme

In addition to all of the in-class and departmental provision for our students, from March 2015 the school will be launching its Rising Stars programme which will give 25 students from each year group (7 – 10) the opportunity to be mentored in order to nurture their gifts and talents further. This programme is open to any student at Turton School regardless of their starting points. Students can join the programme through successful completion of the application process (which will be in the format of a formal written application, team building activities and interview). The commitment shown through the application process will be key to a student being successful in achieving a place on the programme as we feel that effort, teamwork, intrinsic motivation and dedication are important traits to be encouraged in young people. Successful applicants will be mentored by a member of the Rising Stars team; they will also be given the opportunity to participate in additional projects, trips and activities which will be specific to the programme.

Look out for….
