Hand over of new dining room & the start of the new academic year

June 2018

Dear Parent

First of all, I’d like to express my thanks to all parents for your support this year. In particular your patience and tolerance this term as we navigate our way around the new building works.

The construction of a new dining room has inevitably created inconvenience around our lunchtime provision, and I am very grateful for your understanding in this. We are hugely looking forward to the opening of the new dining room and newly designed classrooms in September. I am certain, once we are able to reap the benefits of these new spaces, that the disruption will have been worth it.

The building project does provide me with an opportunity to compliment our students on how brilliantly they have behaved throughout the changes. We could not have asked for better attitudes and co-operation from the students, who have been complimented widely by school staff, construction workers and Local Authority officials, on how well they have adjusted to the closure of both current dining rooms and the respect they have shown for the people implementing the project work.

The construction work will continue over the summer holidays and we will start to see the completion and handover of the new classrooms in late August. Unfortunately, the building company Kier, are anticipating a delay to the completion of the new dining room. This was due to be handed over to us on 4th September, but they are now scheduling the handover for 17th September. This means that our current, temporary lunchtime arrangements will have to continue for the first couple of weeks of the new academic year. In order to accommodate this and allow us to establish clear routines with the new year 7 students, we are proposing a staggered start to the new year for students. Please look carefully at the table below to ascertain the start date for your child:-

School opens to students on Wednesday 5th September. Only Year 7 and Year 11 students will be in on this day.

Many thanks again for your support and co-operation with this; once the building project is complete, we will be organising tours of the new facilities. Please email my PA, Jo Shaw, on shawj@turton.uk.com if you would like to be included in a tour, or if you have any other queries.

Kind regards

SAM GORSE

Head Teacher
