Christmas Holidays

Dear Parent,

Re: Christmas Holidays

You may be aware that, beginning this year in year 7, we have increased our pupil admission number from 240 to 270.  As a result of this annual increase in numbers, the Local Authority are funding a building project to accommodate an extra 150 students in total. The project includes new classrooms, a new science lab and a brand new building housing a dining facility. Once completed, in September 2018, these new facilities will greatly enhance our site provision.

The building work is scheduled to commence early January 2018 and will involve vacating some classrooms and designating areas as building sites in the school grounds that will be out of bounds for students. We are working closely with architects, LA representatives and builders to minimise disruption to learning, however in order to maximise time frames and prepare the site I am making a slight change to the upcoming calendared Christmas holiday.

Currently this term ends on Wednesday 20th December 2017, with students returning to school on Thursday 4th January 2018. This will be changed by pushing the holiday back a day, thus the last day of term will be Thursday 21st December 2017, with students returning after the Christmas break on Monday 8th January 2018. Friday 5th January will be a staff training day, allowing us time to ensure that the necessary preparations are in place ready for the students on Monday.

I would like to thank all parents for their support and cooperation with this change, the building work will ultimately benefit all students at Turton. Amendments to the term dates will appear on our website.

Finally, my sincere apologies for any inconvenience this change may cause. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any queries relating to the building work or the changes to the Christmas holiday.

Kind regards,

Sam Gorse
